AssetGen Planner released - Data Centre Change Planning
18th September 2008
AssetGen Planner is now available - the latest product in the AssetGen infrastructure management tools suite. Designed to dramatically reduce the manual workload involved in planning and managing change, AssetGen Planner automates the use of information held in data centre and service management toolsets. Features include;
Finding cabinets with the space, power, connectivity required for complex hardware |
Automated drawing of floor plans and rack layouts in Visio |
Assessing the impact on services of multiple equipment changes |
Identifying the hardware and service impacts of power downs |
Automated drawing of topology diagrams covering LAN/SAN/Power connectivity to critical devices |
Capacity reports on space, ports, power resources, etc |
"AssetGen Planner really makes a difference to the workload of data centre operations and project teams" said David Cuthbertson, AssetGen’s Commercial Director. "Provisioning, decommissioning and reporting activities suddenly become easier. Taking down a PDU would involve tracing every device connected to each power strip, then tracing the connectivity of servers and LAN/SAN switches, as well as having to understand service impacts. Now it takes a few seconds rather than hours or days. Producing updated Visio diagrams of racks is so easy that no organisation can say it’s too time-consuming to have accurate data centre documentation".

AssetGen Reseller Apointed in the US
Ist July 2008
AssetGen are pleased to announce the appointment of Graphical Networks to resell the AssetGen range in the United States. “Graphical Networks was a natural choice as a reseller” said David Cuthbertson, AssetGen’s Commercial Director. “Their extensive experience of how to document and represent complex infrastructure fits perfectly with our software. Our advanced techniques of combining databases, applications and visualisation are already familiar to the Graphical Networks team, making them a good partner for AssetGen”.
“The US presents a great opportunity for us” commented Fred Koh, President of Graphical Networks. “We have known and worked with the AssetGen team for some time and their technology will benefit many of our customers faced with the increasing problems of complexity and controls. The integration of data centre knowledge with ITIL service management and visualisation greatly reduces the documentation workload – something that US customers want badly!”

AssetGen Connect 1.6 & AssetGen CMDB 1.3 Released
September 27th, 2007
The latest versions of AssetGen range have now been released with additional integration features between the two packages. Any service maps, network diagrams, rack layouts, system diagrams derived from the AssetGen toolsets have embedded links that launch you back to the original database in one or two mouse clicks. These enhancements make it easier for technical infrastructure, service management and outsource teams to work more effectively when planning, managing or reacting to changes.
For Example;
Launch an impact assessment on software or services by selecting a hardware component in a rack diagram |
Find the exact physical location of a device referenced in a service map or service desk CMDB |
Navigate from a system diagram back into the infrastructure database to verify/update current data |
Quickly assess all services impacted by a hardware fault or an unsuccessful change implementation |
Access existing service desk CMDB data using AssetGen which is typically much faster than the service desk user interface. |
These updated versions bring together technical and service information sets, enabling team working and faster decision making.
